Corona Presents: Sustainable Coastlines & Fly My Pretties Clean-up Series

We had a busy start to the year with a special series of three massive beach clean ups that were made possible by our friends Corona and Fly My Pretties. Held across three weekends in January, in Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland, we collected the equivalent of 48 big curbside bins of rubbish!

As with every clean-up, there were some pretty strange items collected, including shopping trollies, bike, iPad, two TV’s off New Brighton and an uncanny amount of shoes from Island Bay in Wellington. If you were one of the 266 volunteers who turned up to help, thank you. Collectively, we covered an incredible 34kms to collect a whopping 11,600 litres of rubbish off our beaches!

We were stoked to bring you the beach clean ups alongside our sponsor Corona. It’s awesome to work alongside a brand that is so hands-on and share the same values as us! The Corona team were on site with an epic old Land Rover, helping to move rubbish and raise awareness of the issues facing our beaches.

Kara McMillan, Brand Manager from Corona, said “Helping to keep New Zealand’s beaches clean means so much to Corona; we’re all about getting out and enjoying our backyard, getting off the beaten track and spending time with mates. This series is a fun way for us to encourage Kiwis to keep our playground pristine so we can enjoy it for years to come.”

A huge shout out also goes to the Fly My Pretties crew, who got stuck in at all three of the clean ups, even manning the BBQ’s at the end of the sweep. Thanks to Corona, a number of volunteers were able to head from the beach to the Fly My Pretties gigs that were in town on the same evening as the clean-up events.

It was awesome to work with everyone who was involved in this series and we loved seeing new and familiar faces turn up to help us move one step closer to cleaner coastlines and waterways for us to all enjoy. We’re looking forward to the next one already!
