Lake Wiritoa Tree Planting | Sustainable Coastlines

Event impacts

Event Details

On Sunday 18 May, we are working with Horizons Regional Council, Department of Conservation and the Wanganui District Council to plant native trees alongside Whanganui’s beautiful Lake Wiritoa. This is one of a series of tree planting activities we are helping to run this winter as part of our nationwide Love your Water: Training Workshops and Tree Planting Tour.

This planting day is part of an ongoing project that has involved the planting of more than 30,000 native trees around Lakes Pauri, Wiritoa and along sections of the Kaitoke Stream. The trees planted and nurtured through this project provide a perfect natural habitat for native birds, and shade for native fish.

We would love to see you there. For those interested in lending a hand, just turn up from 10am to 2pm this Sunday 18 May at the Wiritoa Domain parking area, Kaitoke Road and look for our big blue flags. Free BBQ lunch provided for all volunteers that muck-in.

Gloves will be provided, bring along a spade if you have one, and make sure you wear sturdy shoes or gumboots that you don’t mind getting muddy! To allow us to plan for numbers, please indicate if you are attending through our registration form below.
