Participants need to bring:

  • Sturdy shoes such as sneakers, sports shoes or tramping boots.
  • Warm and waterproof clothes: Our weather is unpredictable! Bring at least one warm top (ideally old woolen) and a rain jacket.
  • Sun hat and sun cream.
  • Reusable water bottle (filled-up and ready to go).
  • Camera (optional) – we would love to see your photos after the event. Share on social media with #loveyourcoast or email to [email protected]

Sustainable Coastlines has partnered with Phoenix Organics on The Love Project, a project to find out which coasts we love the most. Late in 2014 people across the country voted for their favourite beach, and New Brighton was one of the top three!

To celebrate our love for this sweet stretch of sand, join the Sustainable Coastlines team, alongside our friends from Phoenix Drinks and Fly My Pretties, to help clean-up Christchurch’s iconic New Brighton Beach on Friday 20 February.

Look for the big blue Sustainable Coastlines flags outside the New Brighton Surf Life Saving Club, just north of the pier, from 10.00am to 12.00pm. Rubbish sacks, gloves and health and safety information will be provided – all you need to do is sign in, collect clean-up equipment and get stuck in!

You’ve got to be in to win; 4 lucky clean-up participants will receive VIP double passes to the Fly My Pretties concert to be held at the Isaac Theatre Royal that same evening. Fly My Pretties will also be lending a hand on the day so this is a great opportunity to work alongside them as we all do our part in keeping our coastlines the way they should be: litter free. Phoenix Drinks will be providing delicious refreshments for all the hard working clean-up participants.

With great local support from the New Brighton Project and the New Brighton community we are looking forward to giving some love back to this beautiful stretch of coast. Come one, come all, see you there!
