Auckland Tree Planting, Puhinui Reserve | Sustainable Coastlines

Event impacts

Its always difficult to perfectly plan how many trees will be planted at each planting, and when Auckland Council needed help to plant their final 3,000 trees, along with our sponsor Corona, we leapt into action.

Again this day was a collaboration with Kara and Auckland Council, and supported by Mayor’s Million Trees Programme.

The 3,000 trees were infilling an old planting site planted four years ago, which unfortunately had some inquisitive sheep sneak through a culvert and munch some of our trees a few years back. Most of the trees were canopy trees. The already established manuka and ti kouka trees give protection from the elements to help these larger but more fragile trees have a better chance to grow.

Local group Shah Satnam Ji Green S Welfare Force Wing provided an awesome vegan curry and chai tea to reward the 100 hard working volunteers.

Thanks to all those who came out to help on the day, see you at the next one!
