Boomerang Bags Sewing Bee | Sustainable Coastlines

Event Details

On Sunday, 27th August 2017 we teamed up with Jamie McDell and Boomerang Bags New Zealand and held a sewing bee at our Flagship Education Centre in Wynyard Quarter.

We had 30 high-spirited, crafty sewers here for a day of pinning, ironing, cutting and sewing. In total, 25 reusable tote bags were made from repurposed materials that would have otherwise been destined for the landfill. With so much emphasis being placed on plastic bags at the moment, this was an awesome way to tackle single-use plastics at a grass roots level.

To sample the product of this labour of love, check out the Boomerang Bags NZ station at the Orakei Market every second Saturday.

Huge thanks to Organic Mechanic for keeping us well hydrated with their fresh Kombucha, as well as to Honeywrap for sending everyone home with a reusable honey wrap.
