CANCELLED Hirepool Big Clean 2022 | Sustainable Coastlines

Event Cancelled

We’re sorry to announce that the much anticipated Hirepool Big Clean has been cancelled due to rising Omicron cases in the community.

Both Sustainable Coastlines and Hirepool teams are gutted to have to miss out on an epic day with each and every one of you while cleaning up Petone, but this is done as a precaution to keep everyone safe.
We really appreciate your support and hope you can make the next date, which we’ll announce in a few months’ time.

Covid safety at our events

All events in nature will require a My Vaccine Pass on your phone or printed, to be scanned and verified at the event, for those ages 12 and over, before entry. We hope you’ll come celebrate Seaweek and get stuck in to clean Petone beach and the surrounding coastline!

Our generous partner Hirepool wants cleaner coastlines for us all, so we will be working with local community groups to have the biggest possible impact on cleaning up the rubbish found in and around the beach.

On the day there will be two base camps set-up, run as seperate events, one at Hīkoikoi Reserve and the other at Honiana Te Puni Reserve. Volunteers will have their vaccine passes checked, sign-in, pick-up gear, be given a briefing and then head out to an assigned beach location. This multi-station approach ensures no more than 100 people are at the base camps and for safe social distancing to be maintained while we are in Traffic Light Red.

Everything will be provided including health and safety preparation, equipment and refreshments. Whether you’re up for a light stroll or getting dirty and wet, all hands are needed, so we hope you’ll register now and to see you there!

Timing:

11:00pm – Sign in at Sustainable Coastlines gazebo
11:15pm – Welcome and Health and Safety Brief
11:30pm – Clean-up commences
1:00pm – Return from clean-up for lunch
2:00pm – Event Ends

A huge thank you to Hirepool for enabling this event, and the ongoing efforts of the Petone community to clean their local coastline.
