Papakōwhai ANZ Planting Day 2 | Sustainable Coastlines

Event impacts

This was the final planting event for the year as we move into hotter summer conditions and what an impactful way to wrap up the planting season!

We had 45 people contributing to the planting of just over 2000 plants in Papakōwhai Reserve in Porirua where Paremata and Papakōwhai school had also previously contributed to the planting of natives. Most attendees live locally and can now watch as the natives planted in the tidal zone and surrounding banks grow into maturity like the surrounding established kōwhai and mānuka trees.

A big thank you to ANZ and Wellington Community Trust for sponsoring the event and for the collaboration of Porirua City Council. Again thank you to all who got stuck in, especially on the harder banks where dedicated locals rallied to get the final plants in! We’re looking forward to continuing to work together at planting days next year.
