Are you interested in taking action against ocean pollution at your local beach? Be a citizen scientist for a day and contribute to long-term solutions while cleaning up the coastline!
Join us on Tuesday 19th November, 3.30pm – 5.30pm at Ōtaki Beach for a Litter Intelligence litter survey & beach clean-up. Litter Intelligence is Aotearoa’s national litter monitoring programme, enabling communities to collect data, gain insights and influence action for a world without litter. Look for our flag at the Ōtaki Surf Lifesaving Club carpark, just off Marine Parade.
A perfect afterschool activity to do with the kids, we’ll guide you through removing all the litter in a designated area of the beach, categorising it, measuring it, and recording it in the database. Because we survey the same area of the beach each time, you’re helping us build up a picture of the litter problem over time.
All are welcome to this whānau-friendly, free event. Equipment will be provided, including gloves, sacks, and a health and safety briefing. With thanks to Kāpiti Coast District Council.
