On Saturday, 11 May 2024, we’re running a public clean-up at New Brighton Beach as part of The Mother of All Clean-Ups!

Held on the eve of Mother’s Day, this annual event aims to raise awareness of litter in our awa and moana with approx. 200 km of riverbank and estuary edge, Lyttelton Harbour Basin, and beach areas being cleaned up in a single morning.

We are stoked to be running the beach clean station again this year at New Brighton. We will be sending volunteers to clean up different spots along the beach from Southshore Spit to north of the Pier. We will also be running a Litter Intelligence survey & audit, so we can capture data on what items are found on this coastline.

All equipment will be provided, including gloves, sacks, and health and safety documents.

  • 9:00am – Event sign-in begins at home base – outside New Brighton Library
