Join us on Friday 14th July to celebrate Matariki weekend by taking care of Papatūānuku! We are heading down to Petone beach to run a Litter Intelligence Survey and wider beach clean up to protect the natural environment. This year, Matariki coincides with Plastic Free July, so come along to do your bit to prevent plastics and other litter from polluting our coastline.
We’ll be hosting this clean up at the Ski Club end of the beach where we know the problem is its greatest! We will be sending volunteers to clean up different spots along the beach from the Ski Club to the Wharf. We will also be running a Litter Intelligence survey & audit, so we can capture data on what items are found at this site.
All equipment will be provided including gloves, sacks, health and safety documents.
Timing
9:00am – Event sign-in begins at the Honiana Reserve Car Park
9:15am – General welcome and H&S briefing
9:20am – Litter Intelligence briefing for those keen to help us with some rubbish science!
9:30am – Clean-up instructions and equipment hand-out
9:45am – Clean-up begins
11:15am – Clean up finishes
11:30pm – Celebration back at registration area with Phoenix drinks!
We will then complete the Litter Audit at a covered location. Anyone who is interested in participating in this please email the contact below.
