Singapore Airlines Elliot Park Tree Planting | Sustainable Coastlines

Event impacts

Event Details

As part of the Wellington portion of this year’s Love your Water program we were thrilled to partner with the fantastic team at Singapore Airlines to plant 1000 trees at Elliot Park in Brooklyn, Wellington. We love our partnership with Singapore Airlines, and their staff always give 100% during these team building events.

The day dawned clear, warm and perfectly still; a truly unbeatable Wellington day. The event started at 11.00am with a wonderful speech from Wellington Mayor, Celia Wade-Brown (and a perfectly timed fly-by from a Kaka), followed by a speech from Singapore Airlines NZ General Manager, Simon Turcotte, and a speech and karakia from Sustainable Coastlines Event Manager, Te Kawa Robb. After a Health & Safety briefing and a planting demonstration from the wonderful crew at Wellington City Council, the team of 35 got stuck into planting trees.

As well as members from Singapore Airlines Auckland and Wellington, and the Wellington City Council, the planting team was made up of a number of fantastic partners invited along by Singapore Airlines; Garage Project, Wellington Airport, The Wellington Phoenix and Sport Wellington, to name a few. After a lunch break for food and to enjoy refreshments kindly supplied by Phoenix Organics and chat with new friends, we put all 1000 trees in the ground and finished up by 2pm – a really great effort!

A huge thanks to Singapore Airlines for initiating this event, and to the wonderful team at Wellington City Council for enabling this event to come together so smoothly. Thanks also to the partners and new friends who supported this event and got their hands dirty making Wellington even greener.
