For the Wellington portion of our 2016 Love your Water program we returned to one of our favourite community sites, Trelissick Park on Sunday 12 June 2016. Trelissick Park has some great people lovingly overlooking its restoration, including the Trelissick Park Group and the Wellington City Council, who have helped us enormously in organising this day.

The day was cold and overcast, but that didn’t stop 40 hardy souls from showing up in thermals and bucketloads of energy to plant some trees and complete some major weeding. The amazing crew from Volunteer Fitness brought the muscle and made incredibly short work of clearing a 50m section of stream bank of some hardy weeds. Two other groups worked different ends of the lower stream, weeding and planting beautiful natives along the stream bank and pathways.

The weather held out for as long as it could, opening up with some torrential rain around midday – perfect timing for a huddle under the tent for a hot sausage, cup of tea and a cold Phoenix Organic juice.

Massive thanks to Peter and the Trelissick Park Restoration Group for inviting us along to help support their wonderful community-led restoration project. And huge thanks to the Wellington City Council, Kennards HireKwik-N-Ezy and Volunteer Fitness for supporting this event.
