What to bring:
Public planting of native trees at the Waimakariri River Reserve. A whopping 1200 trees planted, big thank you to all those that came along on the crisp and stunning day. Huge thanks to Environment Canterbury, WWF New Zealand, Phoenix Drinks, Meridian Energy, Eighthirty Coffee Roasters and Heat Pumps NOW.
As part of our 2017 Love Your Water project in Christchurch we invite you to join us on Saturday 29 July for a day of tree planting alongside the Waimakariri River in collaboration with Environment Canterbury who lovingly take care of this special waterway.
The key aim of our Love Your Water programme is to inspire others to look after the place they love; improving the quality of our rivers through education, training and hands-on events. We’ll be clearing weeds, mulching and planting native trees to create habitat and shade for native animals, assist in bank stabilisation and soak up nutrient run-off from the land.
Meet us at the Waimakariri River Regional Park, at Whites Crossing West Picnic Area, Coutts Island Road
Directions: Exit Main North Road (1) onto Dickey’s Road. Take a right on Coutts Island Road and drive all the way to the end. Take a left at the end and look out for the Sustainable Coastlines flags! If you have a smart phone, you can google “Whites Crossing West Picnic Area, Coutts Island Road, Christchurch” and go to the downriver end of the area. See map above for exact location.
We’ll be starting from 10.00am and finishing up around 2:00pm. You can stay for as little or as long as you like but we’ll have tea, coffee and juices as well as a BBQ lunch for all participants. To volunteer simply sign-up via our quick registration form.
