On 7 March 2020 we’re running a HUGE public clean-up of Auckland’s west coast beaches, from Muriwai to Whatipu and around the corner into the Manukau Harbour, thanks to our amazing sponsor The Warehouse Group.

We’ll be enabling local community groups to run their own clean-up ‘stations’ to have the biggest possible impact on cleaning up the rubbish found on the coast. There will be registration stations set up at a number of locations where volunteers can sign in, pick up their gear and drop off the rubbish — everything will be provided, including a health and safety briefing and refreshments. By involving local community groups we aim to have as broad an impact as possible and tap into the local knowledge of where the rubbish hotspots are.

Run sheet:

  • 1pm — Registration opens (please note that registration stations will be open for more volunteers up to 3:00pm).
  • 1–3pm — Health and Safety briefing and clean-up commences.
  • 4pm — Before 4pm, all rubbish taken to relevant station. Grab a snack and some refreshments kindly provided by Phoenix Organics and Mexicali Fresh, and get in on the group photo.
  • 4.30pm — Event ends.

Sustainable Coastlines will provide:

  • All relevant equipment: gloves, sacks, sunblock, etc.
  • Health and safety documentation and briefing
  • First-aid trained staff and first-aid kits
  • Hand sanitiser
  • Refreshments post clean-up
  • Water refills
  • Rubbish removal

You should remember:

  • To register online!
  • Closed-toed shoes
  • Sun-smart gear
  • Raincoats and appropriate clothing for the day on the coast
  • Reusable drink bottles, filled and ready to go
  • A camera!

Huge thanks to The Warehouse Group, Auckland Council, our local community groups and all the schools involved in our education programme.
