Join us at 9.30am on Saturday 21 November on the Wellington Waterfront for a day of scuba diving and kayak-based clean-up. The dive site will be on the wharf next to Frank Kitts Lagoon and dive brief will be at 10am – those who miss the dive brief will not be able to dive.

Last year was a huge effort and this year we’re making a day for the whole family with diving, kayaking, face painting, education and music! Both Department of Conservation and the university biologists will be on site picking the marine life out of the debris and identifying the critters we find. Anyone can help. We need volunteers for all the activities below.

Divers

Please contact one of the following local dive groups to join with a dive team: Island Bay Divers (04-383 6778), Dive Wellington (04-939 3483), Wellington Underwater ClubDive & Ski HQ (04-568 5028), 99 Crew.

We need to make sure everyone is safe and up to par for scuba diving, so please contact one of the groups above and say you’re interested in joining a dive team for the harbour clean-up. You will need to bring all your own gear for diving. Dive Master(s) will give dive safety briefing and supervise divers. Dives will be registered through the local dive clubs and must have prior dive clean up experience. Please bring your own catch-bags, but we will have some spare onion bags as back up.

Snorkelers

Snorkelers and free-divers are invited to join the clean-up and focus on Frank Kitts Lagoon.  Please register via form below and be available for the dive briefing at 10am near the boat shed.

Wharf cleaners

Anyone on foot can join too. Our foot soldiers can clean up the litter from under the wharf – gardening gloves and sturdy shoes are essential and a head torch would help too. Please register via form below.

Kayakers

Kayakers are essential for diver support to help retrieve the rubbish as the divers pass up the bags. If you would like to join us please bring your own kayak and life jacket, there will be a limited number of kayaks for use on the day supplied by Ferg’s Kayaks.  Please register via form below.

Location

Frank Kitts Lagoon, near the pedestrian bridge & boathouse, Wellington waterfront.
