Seaweek Auction Fundraiser | Sustainable Coastlines

As part of our Seaweek fundraiser, we now have our most fabulous auction items on Trade Me! These are one-of-a-kind experiences and objects that would usually be auctioned off at our Fundraising Ball (sadly cancelled due to the usual culprit). But now, everyone has a chance to bid!

Dig deep — all proceeds go towards our school education programme, which empowers our tamariki to protect our moana.

$20k to empower our tamariki

Educating children is key to our work. Last month we lost one of our biggest fundraisers of the year — our Fundraising Ball. We still want to share these important messages with children in Aotearoa, so we’re working twice as hard to make sure our team can get there.

We are aiming to raise $20,000 during our Double Your Donation campaign this Seaweek. This will fund our critical work educating and empowering school children to take action for our precious beaches and rivers.

You’re invited to ’Above & Below’, a journey above and below the surface of Aotearoa and the South Pacific by photographers Julie Chandelier and Scott Sinton.

Both passionate about the ocean and marine life, their travels have led them to incredible encounters away and close to home. Their work spans from the corals of the pacific to glacial-fed rivers, to right here in the Hauraki Gulf.  With water being the common thread, Julie and Scott’s motivation is to be a voice for the ocean.  In hope that New Zealand chooses to be a world leader in respect of its marine environment.

Their work explores not just the beauty of the ocean but our connection to it as well.

OPENING NIGHT : Wednesday 4th December between 6PM and 9PM. Complimentary drinks on the night thanks to our friends at Corona, Phoenix Organics and Yealands!  The exhibition will be up till Sunday at 4pm if you wish to view or purchase after opening night.

25% of all sales will go to Sustainable Coastlines to support their invaluable work keeping our beaches beautiful.

During winter we will be hosting a series of free movie nights at The Flagship Education Centre.  Bring your beanbag, best friend or just yourself along and be prepared to be educated or amused (depending on the theme).  There will be a cash bar on the night with thanks to our good friends at Yealands Wines, Corona and Phoenix Organics.  Doors open at 7pm with the movie kicking off at 7.30pm.

Thursday 5th September we will be showing ‘The True Cost’.  This is a story about clothing. It’s about the clothes we wear, the people who make them, and the impact the industry is having on our world. The price of clothing has been decreasing for decades, while the human and environmental costs have grown dramatically. The True Cost is a groundbreaking documentary film that pulls back the curtain on the untold story and asks us to consider, who really pays the price for our clothing?

Filmed in countries all over the world, from the brightest runways to the darkest slums, and featuring interviews with the world’s leading influencers including Stella McCartney, Livia Firth and Vandana Shiva, The True Cost is an unprecedented project that invites us on an eye-opening journey around the world and into the lives of the many people and places behind our clothes.
