On 29 February 2020 we’re running a BIG public clean-up of Christchurch beaches, from Governors Bay to Waimari, thanks to our amazing sponsor Hirepool.

Interested in attending? Read the description below and register at the bottom of the page.

On the day there will be registration stations set up at a number of locations where volunteers can sign in, pick up their gear and drop off the rubbish — everything will be provided including a health and safety briefing and refreshments. We’ll be enabling local community groups to run their own cleanup ‘stations’ to have the biggest possible impact on cleaning up the rubbish found on the coast. This way we hope to have as broad an impact as possible and tap into the local knowledge of where the rubbish hotspots are.

Run sheet for the day

  • 1:30pm – Registration opens (please note that registration stations will be open for more volunteers up to 3:00pm)
  • 2pm – Health and Safety briefing and distribution of gear
  • 2:30pm- Clean-up commences
  • 4pm – Clean-up wraps up
  • 4:15pm – Before 4:15pm, return all rubbish back to relevant station where you can grab a snack from Mexicali Fresh and some refreshments from the Phoenix Organics
  • 4:30pm – Group photo
  • 4:45pm – Event Ends

Sustainable Coastlines will provide:

  • All relevant equipment: gloves, sacks, sunblock, etc.
  • Health and safety documentation and briefing
  • First-aid trained staff and first aid kits
  • Hand sanitiser
  • Refreshments post clean-up
  • Water refills
  • Rubbish removal

You should remember:

  • To register online! (below)
  • Closed-toed shoes
  • Sun-smart gear
  • Raincoats and appropriate clothing for the day on the coast
