Summernova Rangitoto Beach Clean-up 2021 | Sustainable Coastlines

Event impacts

It was a beautiful day which began with a biosecurity message from DOC,  followed by all the amazing volunteers helping to get all of the gear onto the ferry before heading off to clean up Rangitoto Island!

After a H&S briefing, volunteers split off into groups and walked around the island to different zones and collected all the rubbish they could find. We also conducted a Litter Intelligence survey and audit with a few dedicated helpers.

A couple of hours of walking and cleaning up later, we all came together to share a Pheonix drink and plant-based kai provided by Amy from the Sustainable Food Co. Volunteers then listened to a Love Your Coast presentation to give some insight as to why we run these clean-up events.

We gathered all the sacks of litter together and counted 31 full sacks! What a phenomenal effort and achievement from our volunteers! They even helped us to get it all on the ferry at the end of the day. All-in-all it was an incredible event to wrap up the summer beach clean-up series.
